You will enjoy this article whether you are a small business owner, Denver SEO or online marketer, social media manager, or anyone else who could benefit from having your website, videos, or other content found on the first page of Google.

If this post or associated video is outranking your website, there is a reason for that, I know SEO very well.

What is SEO?

SEO is an acronym for Search Engine Optimization.  That means how well your website is optimized to rank in the Google SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages).  I only mention Google as it is the largest search engine and recently bought the 2nd largest search engine YouTube.   To put it into perspective, YouTube is bigger that all the rest combined, including Bing, Yahoo, and Ask.com.  90% of searches will be done on Google.  SEO also applies to videos, press releases, blog posts, articles, social media sites, local directories, and basically anything that you want to rank higher in search engine results.

Google uses an unknown algorithm to rank content.  An algorithm is loosely defined as a system of organization or ranking.  There are over 200 separate factors that decide how well you rank in the Google algorithm.  Below we will focus on the most important aspects.

On Page SEO

On page search engine optimization is what happens within your website, blog post, or video description.  For example, the total number of words on a blog post is a factor in on page optimization.  A minimum of 500 words should be used, and 800 – 1200 is a better range.  Keyword density is also important, which is the ratio of keyword to total words.  The best keyword density will depend on factors such as niche, but 1 – 1.5% is a good starting place.  Before Google Panda and Penguin (algorithm updates), keyword stuffing was an easy way to rank content, now it will get you penalized.

There are many other on page factors, especially with video marketing, but those are the basics.

Off Page Search Engine Optimization

Off Page SEO is just as the name implies, factors outside of your video, website, or content that effect your rank in the search engines.

The biggest off page factor that will be discussed here is backlinks.  The more backlinks you have, the more relevant they are,  and the more diverse they are, the more they will boost your rank in the search engines.

A backlink can be best summed up as a vote from another site to yours.  For example, when someone likes this video and thinks it is valuable, they may post a link to it on their website.  People can click that link on their site and that is a backlink.  It shows Google you are in effect popular.  The best types of backlinks are ones with high PR (Page Rank) and Authority links (see my other trainings).  Be careful, if you get artificial backlinks or ones Google has marked as spam, you can take a big drop in the rankings.

Social Media Signals

Social media is becoming a more and more important factor in SEO.  Google will boost you in its SERPs if you have lots of Facebook likes, shares, and comments as well as Twitter tweets, Google+ G+s and other social signals.  If people are interacting and sharing you social media posts, Google knows that are relevant , good material.

Keep your eyes on Google+, Google’s own social media site who is silently (or not so silently anymore) taking over Facebook.  Yes, fellow marketer, there is a long way to go, but in my professional opinion this will happen in the next 5 years.  This means you should be focusing on G+s (Google equivalent of likes), and if you haven’t set up your businesses Google plus page, do it now.  This alone will separate you from 90% of the competition.

Other Factors That Influence SEO

Good content:  There is a saying… “Content is King”.   No matter what you do with backlinks, social media signal, and keyword density, the most  important factor is content.  In all my testing this overrides any other single factor.  If you align with Google’s intention of the best user experience you will rank.  Basically, Google wants someone that types in Denver SEO, to find a good, informative video such as this one.  If you manipulate the rankings and somehow get one of the top positions, you will fall from the top quickly.  The algorithm analyzes how long a searcher stays on your content, and if a lot of users bounce off quickly, it is an indication that your content was not what the user was looking for.

Consistency:  Google loves consistent, well written content.  Just by putting up a blog post on your website on a weekly basis shows that your content has a good chance of being relevant.

Google Authorship:  Have you seen the little thumbnail picture next to some peoples websites in Google search results?  This is Google’s way of showing authorship and is done by connecting your Google + page to your website.  They say that this is not a factor in SEO, but I believe otherwise.  If anything, if your picture is next to your website in the SERPs, you may get more clicks than the website without a picture above it.  Social proof is a major factor in SEO, so with Authorship, it shows the number of G+ followers you have.

The First Page of Google – Why You Want to Be There

If you aren’t on the first page of Google, you better be doing everything you can to get there.  Most studies show that 90% or more of all clicks for any given keyword happen on the first page of Google.  In fact, up to 65% or more of clicks don’t go past the first 5 spots on the first page.

Future Considerations

Watch for the search engines to become more and more aligned with social signals.  Make sure you are getting your website and videos on all the major social media sites (Google+, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn) and at least 10 of the most important local search directories in the Denver SEO area.

Caution!!!

Have some knowledge of what your Denver SEO consultant is doing with your website, social media sites, videos, and press releases.  If they are practicing methods that go against Google’s User Guidelines, your site can take a huge drop in the rankings.  Worse yet, it can be deindexed, which means it no longer appears anywhere in the search results.

First you will have to do your keyword research, and do it properly. Most chiropractors or small businesses don’t even identify keywords their potential customers are looking for. The ones that do don’t do it properly. If you are not doing keyword research properly, you are throwing away money.
 
The second tip is to set up and optimize your social media sites. The top 5 social sites for chiropractic are Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Google+. Set up these sites with pictures, ratings, reviews, videos, and valuable content for your clients.
 
Third, you must properly set up and optimize your local search directories. Examples of local directories are Yelp, Manta, Foursquare, Merchant Circle, Yellowpages, Bing Business Portal, Yahoo Local and 100′s of others. This type of site has been around since the beginning of the internet and will help you get found locally. They are also an important indicator to Google and the other search engines that your site should be ranked above other chiros.
 
Video marketing is the fourth tip, and a very important one at that. Video marketing is free and effective, in fact prospects who come from watching your video are 6x more likely to buy from you. And by 2015, it is projected that 90% of internet traffic will be video. Videos rank very well, more easily than websites, so make sure you are using video marketing to your advantage.
 
Tip number 5 is paid advertising and includes using Facebook, Google, YouTube and more. Facebook PPC (Pay Per Click) is my absolute favorite form of all advertising and in my profession opinion the most powerful. Using paid advertising is leveraged and if done right is guaranteed to bring you results without spending lots of time.
 
One other thing to consider as a chiropractor is the potential that online marketing brings to your business. As a chiropractor, if you’re hands aren’t on a client you are not making money. Begin to use social media, SEO, and the internet in general to build a list of people who will buy products, training, or advice from you in the future.  Begin to leverage your time and build a residual income.
 
I highly recommend you hire a good social media manager to assist you with your marketing. As a former small business owner, I understand that your time is best spent working with people, not trying to figure out the internet, SEO, and social media.

You don’t have Niagara Falls to attract more customers to your small business, but you can attract all the customers you need using social media and SEO strategies.

 
The first thing you need to do is keyword research, which is the foundation of all of your online marketing. If you are not doing it, or not doing it correctly, you are throwing away hard earned money.
 
Keywords are simply the words your customers type into Google or other search engines to find you. You can find how many customers are searching for each keyword using Google’s Keyword Tool.
 
The second thing you will have to do is properly set up and optimize your social media sites.
 
I start with the top 5 sites and move from there depending on the customer and the niche.
 
Here are the top 5:
-Facebook
-Twitter
-LinkedIn
-Pinterest
-Google+
 
It is important you put good pictures and lot’s of valuable information on these sites. You will want to post consistent, relevant content to your target market at least once a day.
 
You will also want to incentivize customers to leave reviews and interact on these pages, both for social proof and also ranking purposes.
 
The third thing to focus on is setting up and optimizing the most important local search directories. These sites are how you get found locally, and are also an indicator to the search engines your business is relevant and should rank high on the first page of Google.
 
Here you can also insert pictures, videos, coupons, offers, info, and get ratings and reviews. There are over 50 local search directories, and you should focus on setting up at least the top 10 in your area.
 
Yelp, Manta, Foursquare, Bing Business Portal, Yahoo Local, Yellowpages, Merchant Circle are all examples of local search directories.
 
Make sure you set up these sites properly or it can actually hurt your small business.
 
The fourth thing to do is video marketing, which is one of the best ways to promote your business and attract customers.
 
YouTube video marketing is free and it’s highly effective. Customers who have seen you, your employees, your equipment, your office, and your products or services already feel like they know you.
 
Customers coming from a video are 6x more likely to buy than those who came from another source. Focus on providing value in your videos and leave the link to your website in the description below the video with a strong call to action.
 
The fifth and final thing I will talk about here is paid advertising. It is a quick way to get your advertising out and is also highly effective.
 
Although Google and YouTube both have forms of paid ads, I recommend Facebook PPC (Pay Per Click) advertising.
 
In my professional opinion, it is the most powerful and cost effective way to bring more customer in your door or to your website.

SEO for PhotographersIf you are a photographer who wants your customers to find you online, it is crucial you know something about social media and SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
 
The first thing you want to do is have your website properly designed, built, and optimized to rank well in the search engines.  Although there are several different search engines, the one we are most focused on is Google, as it is the largest by far.
 
The next thing to do is to make sure your social media sites are properly set up and optimized.  You will want to insert pictures, reviews, videos, and post consistent and relevant content to all your sites.
 
Some sites to set up are Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google +, and very importantly Pinterest, as it is all photos and congruent with your message and work.
 
After your social sites are done, you will want to set up the top 10 – 20 local search directories.  Sites such as Yelp, Manta, Foursquare, Bing, Yahoo Local, Yellowpages, and Merchant Circle are all local search directories.
 
Local directories help your business get found locally and also act as indicators to Google that your website is relevant and should rank high in the results.  There are over 50 of these sites, and you should set up at least the top 10.  
 
Be careful, if you set things up wrong, you can actually hurt your rankings.  Optimize these directories with pictures, reviews, information, and specials for your business.
 

Another thing to consider doing is video marketing.  It is free and highly effective, not to mention it is easy to rank videos in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages).  You can make a video with a collage of your photos with a nice song behind it.

Paid advertising is yet another very powerful and effective way to market your photography business online.

Facebook PPC (Pay Per Click) advertising is in my opinion the most effective and cost friendly way to market.

With this type of advertising you are able to laser target your demographics and track responder statistics at the same time.

There are other paid methods such as Google PPC and YouTube CPC that work well also.  Be careful, as even many professional marketers don’t understand paid advertising, and you can end up wasting your money.

Easy Social Media Strategies to Increase Your Profits

Social Media StrategiesIf you are looking to outrank your competition online and stay there you better have some good social media strategies.
 
Consistency is probably the most important factor when it comes to ranking well in Google, provided you have done the proper keyword research and on page SEO.
 
The first thing you must do is regularly update your website.  If your website doesn’t get updated with good, relevant content, Google can view it as unimportant or spammy.  
 
Remember Google and other search engines want their users to find what they are looking for.  Make sure your website has the info your target market is looking for. Align with Google’s intention of providing the best user experience and you will rank well.
 

The best way to keep your website up to date is to post a blog with valuable information to your potential customers.  You will want to post a blog at least once a week, twice a week is even better.

This blog post should have at least 500 words and should have your keywords and relevant keywords included.  If you know a little about search engine optimization, shoot for .75% to 1.5% keyword density, depending on your niche. 
 
Another one of the social media strategies to be consistent is posting content to your social media sites.  You will want to post at least once a day to each of your social sites.
 
Again, you will want to be posting content that is relative to your industry, product, or service.  Use your keywords in your posts as well as you descriptions.  Yes Google picks up on this.
 
As far as what type of posts to write, I recommend you follow the 10 x 3 x 1 rule, at least on your Facebook page.
 
For every 14 posts:
10 should be humorous and engaging with no promotion
3 should provide a link, photo, or video from industry relevant story
1 should include a link back to your website or capture page
As far as social media marketing goes, make sure and set up the most important social sites beyond your Facebook business page.
Most of your competition will not even have their Google + page set up.  Verify your business with Google and set up and optimize your Google plus page.
Other social sites that I recommend to set up are Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and sometimes sites like Tumblr and similar.
 
Video marketing is yet another social media strategy the will boost your bottom line.
 
It is also another area where consistency is important.  Attraction marketing is a great way to market with videos.  Provide your customers with free value on the front end and sell on the back end.  Include a link to your website and your phone number in the YouTube video description.  Make sure and optimize your videos to rank well.
 
One of the social media strategies that most people overlook is updating their local search directories.
 
Local directories such as Yelp, Manta, Foursquare, Yahoo Local, Merchant Circle, Yellow Pages, and the other 50 or more directories can be updated and optimized. Update pictures, specials, and information at least a few times a month.
Make sure you set up your local directories properly, if you don’t, you can actually hurt your business.
 
The last thing I’ll mention as far as consistency and social media strategies is paid advertising.
 
Almost no one runs consistent paid advertising, and this is one way you can crush your competition quickly and easily, if you know what you’re doing.
 
Facebook PPC (Pay Per Click) is my absolute favorite form of advertising, and in my opinion is by far the most powerful of all online marketing.
Make sure and set aside a budget dedicated to marketing.  Spend this amount every day and adjust as you go.  Once you’ve tested and tracked your responder demographics, things get extremely laser target and very profitable.  For my customers who have an email list, I can tell them how much it will cost to get an opt in, and how much they will make for each opt in.
 
Other forms of paid advertising exist including Google PPC an YouTube CPC (Cost Per Click).
 
There you have it, be consistent with the right social media strategies, and you will skyrocket past your competitors on page 1 Google and add significantly to your bottom line .

Social Media SEOIf you are a small business owner and are wanting to stay ahead of your competition, you better know something about social media marketing and SEO.  Because social media is the new SEO.
 
If you’re not familiar with SEO, it is an acronym for Search Engine Optimization.  SEO is how well your website, video, or other content is optimized to rank well in the search engines.
 
When speaking about search engines, I typically only focus on two, Google and YouTube.  Google is the biggest and YouTube is second, which is why Google purchased YouTube.  Bing, Yahoo and the others combined aren’t as big as either.
 
SEO used to be easy for most marketers, just using backlinks, or simply put links on other sites to your site.  Some marketers who used black hat SEO, or SEO that uses techniques against Google guidelines could rank almost anything 1st page.
 
Social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and especially Google+ are becoming the new SEO.
 
As the internet evolves, Google and YouTube are changing their algorithms (ranking systems) more and more to reward social media activity.  This activity includes likes, shares, and comments on Facebook.  It also includes, +1′s on Google plus, retweets on Twitter, and more.
 
Google’s intention is to provide the best user experience.  They know by using several measurements what sites searches prefer.  One example would be how long visitors stay on your website or video before moving on or searching again.
 
Google also rewards good, quality content…which is a huge reason social media is the new SEO.  When Google see’s lots of people liking and sharing content, they know it worth ranking.
 
Another thing to consider and implement is that Google loves consistent content that is relevant to your niche.  I recommend at least on blog post or similar update per week, and two is better.
 
There are two things to do to boost the interaction on your social media sites.
 
1.  Provide lot’s of valuable and useful information for your target market
2.  Incentivize customers to interact on you social media sites
 
You can accomplish the latter by offering customers discounts for commenting and interacting on your social sites.  You can even print up little cards to provide them your sites and how to interact.

Social media is the online migration of face to face interaction and word of mouth referrals.

If you want to stay ahead of your competition in the 21st century and beyond, it is imperative you understand social media or hire someone who does.

There are many social media sites, but the top 5 you definitely should be set up on are:
-Facebook (Fan/Business Page)
-Twitter
-LinkedIn
-Pinterest
-Google +

95% of your competition will not have these 5 sites set up. So by doing so and optimizing with pictures, keywords, information, and your website, you will be way ahead of the pack.

These social sites act as indicators to Google and the other smaller search engines that your business is relevant and should rank high for your potential customer searches.

Interaction on these sites is also crucial, as it does little good to have a Facebook page with no posts, likes, comments, shares, etc.

One thing you can easily do right now is claim your Google+ page. If you search your business name and “Google+”, you will should be able to find your basic page Google has set up for you by pulling information from your website.

You can optimize this page with pictures, videos, testimonials, your logo, reviews, and other information. Take advantage of Google Plus right now and crush your competition.

You will also want to keep an eye on the reviews that come into Google+. Reputation management is one of the most important things I do for my clients online. When someone puts out a bad review or mentions their name online, I get an automatic notification.

Save a LifeHello, my name is Jeremy Howie and I live in Fort Collins, CO.

 

The pictures you just saw are of me and my little brother Justin as young and adult Denver Broncos fans.  We watched a lot of games together over the years.

 

Man Justin loved the Broncos…

 

But we will never get to watch a game together again.

 

Because Justin took his own life and committed suicide on December 31st, 2012.  I got a phone call from my Dad late at night…it was the worst phone call of my life.

 

It has been a challenging start to the year and the past four months have been painful, scary, and full of questions…

 

Can you imagine if someone you love committed suicide??

 

Imagine it now…

 

Your brother, sister, Mom, Dad, wife, husband, relative…or God forbid, your child.  Maybe you have lost a loved one to suicide, if so I’m sorry.

 

If you’re a parent you can only imagine the devastation my parents felt and the incredibly difficult emotions they face every day.  No one should have to ever bury their child.
